Answer:

a) the charge of the ion will be positive

b) the number of protons in the ion will be 18

c) I'm not sure but I think the valency of X is 2 & Cl is 1.

d) XCO3

Explanation:

I don't know how to explain

Answers are as follows

a) On loss of two electrons, the charge on ions will be represented as +2.

b) Number of protons is equal to the atomic number is element. Since loss of electrons does not affect atomic number, the number of protons will remain same which is 20.

c) In XCl2, valency of X is +2 and Cl is -1. Thus, one ion of X combines with two negatively charged ions of Cl.

d) Carbonate ion is represented as CO3(2-).

+2 -2

X CO3

Since both have equal positive and negative charge, the chemical formula will be - XCO3.
