if x is an odd number, x-1 is an even number. If x-1 is even, then (x-1)-1, or x-2 is odd. In the same way, x-2 is the first off number immediately preceding the odd number, "x". eg let 5 is an odd nos then preceding  5, odd nos is 5-2 =3 is an odd nos

EXTRA

Similarly,  if x is an odd number, x+1 is an even number. If x+1 is an even number, then (x+1)+1, or x+2 is an odd number. As a matter of fact, x+2 is the first odd number immediately following the odd number, "x." eg let 5 is an odd nos then after  5, odd nos is 5+2 =7 is an odd nos

So there you have it. Odd, even, ...., (x-2)odd, (x-1)even, (x)odd, (x+1)even, (x+2)odd, even, odd, ...
