Given : x is proportional to √y where y > 0

y is increased by 44%

To Find : the percentage increase in x.

Solution:

x is proportional to √y

=> x = k √y

Let say y = 100n²

=> x =  k √100n²

=> x = 10kn

y = 100n²

y is increased by 44%

=> y = 100n²   + (44/100)100n²

= 144n²

=> x =  k √144n²

=> x = 12kn

x changed from 10kn to 12kn

Increased = 12kn - 10kn = 2kn

% increase = (2kn/10kn) * 100  = 20 %

percentage increase in x. = 20 %
