A commonly used source of X-rays is the X-ray tube (Coolidge type), which consists of a thermionic cathode and an anode made of copper or tungsten (i.e., high Z metal) enclosed in a highly evacuated glass tube. Electrons emitted from cathode are accelerated and then made to strike the anode.
