Answer:

Let x- 1/x = y

x^1+1/x^2 = y^2 + 2

y^2 +2 + y-14=0

y^2+y-12=0

y^2-3y+4y-12=0

y(y-3)+4(y-3)=0

y=3, -4

||✪✪ QUESTION ✪✪||

Solve x² + 1/x² + x - 1/x - 14 = 0

|| ✰✰ ANSWER ✰✰ ||

→ x² + 1/x² + x - 1/x - 14 = 0

Splitting 14 First,

x² + 1/x² + x - 1/x - 2 - 12 = 0

Re- arranging now,

(x² + 1/x² - 2) + (x - 1/x) - 12 = 0

using + - 2ab = (a-b)² now,

(x - 1/x)² + (x - 1/x) - 12 = 0

Let, (x - 1/x) = y now,

y² + y - 12 = 0

Splitting the Middle Term now,

y² + 4y - 3y - 12 = 0

→ y(y+4) -3(y+4) = 0

→ (y+4)(y-3) = 0 .

Putting both Equal to zero now, we get,

y+4 = 0

→ y = (-4)

or,

→ y - 3 = 0

→ y = 3 .

Putting y as (x - 1/x) now,

(x - 1/x) = (-4) or 3 .
