Answer:

Value of x is 2, when value of y is 6 given that x varies inversely as y.

If x varies inversely as y ,

\begin{gathered}x \propto \: \frac{1}{y} \\ \\ xy = constant\end{gathered}

x∝

y

1

xy=constant

Given

x = 3,

y = 4.

Now,

xy = 3 × 4 = 12

If y = 6,

then

⇒ xy = xy

⇒ 12 = 6x

⇒ x = 12 ÷ 6

⇒ x = 2

Therefore, When y = 2, x = 6.

If x varies inversely as y then,

Increase in x implies decrease in y

Decrease in x implies increase in y.

x = 3, y = 4

Since y decreased to 2, x increased to 6.
