From eq1 we get

x=-1+y

putting the value of x in eq 2 we get

3(-1+y)+2y=12

-3+3y+2y=12

5y=12+3

y=15/5=3

put the y=3 in eq 1we get

x-3+1=0

x-4=0

x=4
