2x + y = 10.....(ii)
Multiply equation (i) by 2
=> 2 × (x - y = -1)
=> 2x - 2y = -2....(iii)
Now subtract (ii) from (iii)
=>
2x - 2y = -2
- 2x ± y = ± 10
=> -3y = -12
=> y = -12/-3
=> y = 12/3
=> y = 4
Now put the value of y in eq. (i)
=> x - y = -1
=> x - 4 = -1
=> x = -1+4
=> x = 3
Hence the value of x and y are 3 and 4 respectively.
