Answer -

x = 6

y = (-5)

Solution -

By substitution method,

x + y = 1 \:  -  -  -  - (1)

3x + 2y = 8 \:  -  -  -  - (2)

From Equation (1),

x + y = 1

 \longmapsto \: x = 1 - y \:  -  -  -  - (3)

Now, put the value of x in Equation (2),

3x + 2y = 8

 \longmapsto3(1 - y) + 2y = 8

 \longmapsto3 - 3y + 2y = 8

 \longmapsto3 - y = 8

 \longmapsto - y = 8 - 3

 \longmapsto \boxed{ y =  - 5}

Put the value of y in Equation (3),

x = 1 - y

 \longmapsto \: x = 1 - ( - 5)

 \longmapsto \boxed{x = 6}
