Hi ,

x + y = 14

x = 14 - y -----( 1 )

x - y = - 4 -----( 2 )

Substitute ( 1 ) in equation ( 2 ) , we

get

( 14 - y ) - y = -4

14 - 2y = -4

-2y = -4 - 14

-2y = -18

y = ( -18 ) / ( -2 )

y = 9

Put y = 9 in equation ( 1 ) , we get

x = 14 - 9

x = 5

Therefore ,

x = 5 , y = 9

I hope this helps you.
