from First equation:
X+Y=14
SO, X=14-Y

we know that:
Y-X=4   (Substituting X value from first equation)
Y-(14-Y)
Y-14+Y=4
Y+Y=4+14 (transposing 14 to RHS and Y to LHS)
2Y=18
therefore Y=18/2
                   =9
Therefore:X=14-Y
                    =14-9
                    =5

Therefore X=5 and Y= 9
