Let,
- x = 1
- y = 2
Now,
» R.H.S.
= (x + y)²
= (1 + 2)²
= 3²
= 9
»L.H.S.
= x² + 2xy + y²
= 1² + 2 × 1 × 2 + 2²
= 1 + 4 + 4
= 9
Since , R.H.S. = L.H.S.
Therefore , the identity is applied for x = 1 , and y = 2 , where we find the value of square of their sum .
