Required Answer :-

x + y = 2 -(i)

x - y = 4 -(ii)

Adding equation (i) and (ii) we get,

x + y = 2

+ x - y = 4

x = 3

put x = 3 in equation (i)

x + y = 2

3 + y = 2

y = 2 - 3

y = - 1
