x - y = 1.......(2)

=> x = 1 + y......(3)

Use eqn.(3) in eqn.(1)

=> 2(1 + y) + y = 8

=> 2 + 2y + y = 8

=> 2 + 3y = 8

=> 3y = 8 - 2

=> 3y = 6

=> y = 6/3

=> y = 2......(4)

Use eqn.(4) in eqn.(2)

=> x -2 = 1

=> x = 1 + 2

=> x = 3

Therefore, x = 3 and y = 4 is the required solution
