you can also substract. But lets add to make things easy.

Adding the two equations: -

(X-Y)+(x-y)=2+4

2x=6

X=6/2

X=3

Now putting the value of ‘x’ in 1st equation, we get

3-y=2

Y=3–2

Y=1.

x + y = 4........(1) \\ x - y = 2.........(2) \\ \\  Solution :</p><p>\\adding \: (1) \: and \: (2) \\ \:  2x = 6 \\ x =  \frac{6}{2}  \\  \\ x = 3 \\ substituting \: x = 3 \: in \: equation \: (1) \\ 3 +y  = 4 \\ y = 4 - 3 \\  = 1
