given \: equation \: are \\ \\ x + y = 4..............(1) \\ \\ x - y = 2...............(2) \\ \\ from \: equation \: (1) \\ \\ x = 4 - y \\ \\ putting \: this \: value \: of \: x \: in \: quation \: (2) \\ \\ 4 - y - y = 2 \\ \\ - 2y = 2 - 4 \\ \\ - 2y = - 2 \\ \\ y = \frac{ - 2}{ - 2} = 1 \\ \\ putting \: this \: value \: of \: y \: in \: equation \: (2) \\ \\ x - 1 = 2 \\ \\ x = 2 + 1 = 3 \\ \\ hence \: \: x = 3 \: \: and \: \: y = 1 \\ \\ hope \: it \: helps...
