x-y=4,xy=23 then find x+y

Hi ,

x - y = 4 ----( 1 )

xy = 23 -----( 2 )

We know that ,

( x + y )² = ( x -y )² + 4xy

= 4² + 4 × 23

[ From equations ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) ]

( x + y )² = 16 + 92

= 108

( x + y ) = ± √108

= ± √ (2 × 2 )×( 3 × 3) × 3

x + y = ± 6√3
