hey.....

x + y = 40

x +2y = 125

ELEMINATION METHOD.......

X + Y = 40

-X -2Y = -125

-1Y = -85

y = -85/-1

y = 85...... - will cancel

x + 85 = 40

x = 85 - 40

x = -45

substitute two values

x + y = 40

85 + ( -45 ) = 40

85 - 45 = 40

40 = 40.....

x = 85 y = -45

Answer:

x=-45

y=85

Explanation:

x+y=40

x+2y=125

elimination:

x+y=40

-x-2y=-125

_______

-y=-85

y=-85/-1

so, y=85

substitute the y value in second equation

x+2y=125

x+2×85=125

x+170=125

x=125-170

x=-45
