x + y = 5 ( equation 1 )

2x +3y = 4 ( equation 2 )

Now,

multiplying (eq.1) by 2 and subtracting (eq.2) from ( eq.1 )

(2x + 2y = 10) - (2x +3y = 4 )

=> 2x + 2y - 2x - 3y = 6

=>-y=6                                                                                                                        =>y= -6                                                                                                                       Putting the value of y in ( eq.1 )

=> x+ y = 5

=> x -6 = 5

=> x = 5 + 6                                                                                                                                 =>x=11
