Value of x - y is 14 .

Given :

\dfrac{x}{y}=\dfrac{5}{3}

and , x+y = 56   ......( 1 )

We need to find x - y .

Now ,

\dfrac{x}{y}=\dfrac{5}{3}\\\\x=\dfrac{5y}{3}

Putting value of x in equation 1 .

We get :

\dfrac{5y}{3}+y=56\\\\\dfrac{8y}{3}=56\\\\y=\dfrac{56\times 3}{8}\\\\y=21

Therefore ,

x=\dfrac{5\times 21}{3}\\\\x=35

Now , x - y = 35-21

x-y = 14

Hence , this is the required solution .
