Answer:

x - y =5

x= 5+y

50x - 100y = 2000

50 (5+y) - 100y = 2000

250 + 50y - 100y = 2000

-50y = 1750

y = 1750/-50

y = 35

then, x= 5+35=40

x-y = 5 -------(1)

50x+100y = 2000 ------(2)

From (1),

x-y=5

x = y+5 ------(3)

Substitute eq (3) in eq (2),

50x + 100y = 2000 \\ 50(y + 5) + 100y = 2000 \\ 50y + 250 + 100y = 2000 \\ 150y = 2000 - 250 \\ 150y = 1750 \\ 15y = 175 \\ y =  \frac{175}{15}  \\ y =  \frac{32}{3}  \\  \\ x = y + 5 \\ x =  \frac{32}{3}  + 5 \\ x =  \frac{32 + 15}{ 3}  \\ x =  \frac{47}{3}  \\   \\  \\  \\ \\ x =  \frac{47}{3}  \\ y =  \frac{32}{3}
