x+y= 5

5x-3y=1

here,

we have to make any one term equal

therefore,

1st equation multiplied by 5

we get,

5x+5y = 25

then now,

(5x + 5y=25) - (5x-3y=1)

5x+5y-5x+3y= 25-1

8y=24

y= 24/8

y= 3

Now,

finding x

x+y =5

x+3=5

x=5-3

x=2

therefore, x=2 and y=3
