x + y = 5 and 3x - y = 3

Solve the equations graphically.

EVALUATION

Here the given system of equations are

x + y = 5 - - - - - - (1)

3x - y = 3 - - - - - (2)

Here in the graph red line represents the line given by Equation 1 and the green line represents the line given by Equation 2

The two lines intersect at A(2,3)

So the required solution is x = 2 , y = 3

VERIFICATION :

If we solve we will get same solution as below

Equation 1 + Equation 2 gives

4x = 8

∴ x = 2

From Equation 1 we get

y = 5 - x = 5 - 2 = 3

So the required solution is x = 2 , y = 3
