=x+y=5 -(1st)eq.

=x-y=8 -(2nd)eq.

On solving both equations by elimination method,we would add both the equations,

=x+y=5

=x-y=3

After solving, we get,

=x+x=5+3

=2x=8

=x=8/2

=x=4

Now, On putting the value of x in eq. 1,we get,

=4+y=5

=y=5-4

=y=1.

So, The value of x=4 and y=1.
