Answer: x = 19/5 ; y = 6/5
Step-by-step explanation:
Given
x + y = 5 ...............i)
2x - 3y = 4 ..........ii)
Solving this equation by,
Elimination method:- Multiplying eq i) by 3
3x + 3y = 15 ..........iii)
Adding eq. iii) and ii)
(3x + 3y) + (2x - 3y) = 15 + 4
5x = 19
x = 19/5
Putting x = 19/5 in euqation i)
19/5 + y = 5
y = 5 - 19/5
y = (25-19)/5
y = 6/5
Substitution method:- Finding the value of x from eq. i)
x = 5 - y ........iii)
Putting this value of x in eq ii)
2(5 -y) - 3y = 4
10 -2y -3y = 4
-5y = 4 - 10
-5y = -6
y = 6/5
Putting y = 5 in eq iii)
x = 5 - 6/5
x = (25-6)/5
x = 19/5
