Given 1st Equation =  x + y = 6  ---------- (1)

Given 2nd Equation = 3x - y = 4  ------------- (2)

On solving (1) & (2), we get

x + y = 6

3x - y = 4

-----------------

4x = 10

x = 10/4

x = 5/2.

Substitute x = 5/2 in (1), we get

x + y = 6

5/2 + y = 6

y = 6 - 5/2

   = 12 - 5/2

   = 7/2.

Therefore x = 5/2 and y = 7/2.

Now,

x - y =  \frac{5}{2} -  \frac{7}{2}

              =  \frac{-2}{2}

              = -1.

Hope this helps!
