x - y = 2 --> (ii)

$x + y = 6$

$x = 6 - y$

Putting the value of x in (ii)

$x - y = 2$

$(6 - y) - y = 2$

$6 - y - y = 2$

$- 2y = 2 - 6$

$- 2y = - 4$

$2y = 4$

y = 4/2

y = 2

Putting the value of y in (i)

$x + y = 6$

$x + 2 = 6$

$x = 6 - 2$

$x = 4$

Ans. x = 4, y = 2
