Given ,

x - y = 6 \\  \\  =  > x = 6 + y

Now putting back the value of x in x + y = 2

x + y = 2 \\  \\  =  > 6 + y + y = 2 \\  \\  =  > 6 + 2y = 2 \\  \\  =  > 2y = 2 - 6 \\  \\  =  > 2y =  - 4 \\  \\  =  > y =  \frac{ - 4}{2}  \\  \\  =  > y =  - 2

Now again putting back the value of y in x = 6 + y

x =  6 + y \\  \\  =  > x = 6 + ( - 2) \\  \\  =  > x = 6 - 2 \\  \\  =  > x = 4

So x = 4 and y = ( - 2 )
