Solution :
x + y = 7
=> y = 7 - x ----( 1 )
3x - y = 1 ----( 2 )
Substitute y = 7 - x in equation ( 2 ),
we get
3x - ( 7 - x ) = 1
=> 3x - 7 + x = 1
=> 4x = 8
=> x = 8/2
=> x = 4
Put x = 4 in equation ( 1 ), we get
y = 7 - 4
=> y = 3
Therefore ,
( x , y ) = ( 4 , 3 )
