this sum can solved by elimination method:

x+y=7  ----> eqn 1

3x-y=2  ----> eqn 2

eqn 1 + eqn 2 =>   4x+0 = 9

                      4x=9

                        x=9/4

                         x=2.25

To get the y value, we need to subsitute the x value in eqn 1 or 2

x+y=7 ----> eqn 1

2.25+y=7

y=7-2.25

y=4.75

 

To  check sub the values in eqn 1 or 2

in eqn 2

3(2.25)-4.75=2

hence solved
