From second equation y=(7-x)^2, putting this in first equation

(7-x)^2+x^1/2=11

x^2–14x+x^1/2+38=0

x^3/2(x^1/2–2)+2x^3/2–14x+x^1/2+38=0

x^3/2(x^1/2–2)+2x(x^1/2–2)-10x+x^1/2+38=0

x^3/2(x^1/2–2)+2x(x^1/2–2)-10x^1/2(x^1/2–2)+19(x^1/2–2)=0

(x^1/2–2)(x^3/2+2x-10x^1/2+19)=0

So x^1/2=2, so x=4 so y=9.
