x+y=8

x-y=2 on adding these two equations

2x=10

x=5

y=8-x

y=3

Given,

x + y = 8 ---(1)

x - y = 2 ---(2)

By adding eq(1) and eq(2) we get,

x + y = 8

x - y = 2

---------------

2x = 10

x = 10/2

x = 5 ---(3)

By substituting eq(3) in eq(1) we get,

x + y = 8

5 + y = 8

y = 8 - 5

y = 3

Hence,

\boxed{x = 5,  y = 3}
