x+y=a+b
ax-by=a2-b2
x+y-(a+b)=0
ax-by-(a2-b2)=0

Solving by cross multiplication
x/(a2-b2)-[-a+b)(-b)]
=x/-(a+b)a-[-(a2-b2)]=1/-b-a
=x/a2-b2-(ab+b2)=y/-a2-ab+(a2-b2)
=1/-b-a=x/-a2-ab=y-ab-b2=1/-(a+b)
=x/-(a2+ab)=y/-(ab+b2)=1/-(a+b)
=x=a2+ab/a+b,y=ab+b2/a+b
=x=a(a+b)/a+b,y=b(a+b)
: x=a & y=b
