x+y = a+b..... (i)

ax-by = a2-b2.....(ii)

From (i) x=a+b-y

putting in (ii)

a(a+b-y)-by = a2-b2

or, a2+ab-ay-by = a2-b2

or, ab-(a+b)y = -b2

or, y= -b2-ab/-(a+b)

= b2+ab/a+b

Now, x = a+b-y

= a+b -(b2+ab/a+b)
