Or

$ii)Given \: x^{2} + \frac{1}{x^{2}} \\= \Big( x - \frac{1}{x} \Big)^{2} + 2 \times x \times \frac{1}{x} \\= \Big( x - \frac{1}{x} \Big)^{2} + 2$
