 {x}^{2}  + 2x - 5 = 0  \\ here \: d =  {b}^{2}  - 4ac \\  \:  \:  \:  \:   \:  \:  \:   \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  =  {2}^{2}  - (4.1. - 5) \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   = 4 + 20 \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   = 24

so \sqrt{24}  = 2 \sqrt{6}

so,

 \frac{ - b +  -  \sqrt{d} }{2a}  \\  =   \frac{ - 2 +  - 2 \sqrt{6} }{2.1}   \\ =  \frac{  2( - 1 +  -  \ \sqrt{6}) }{2}  \\   = - 1 +  \sqrt{6} \:  \:  and \:  \:  - 1 -  \sqrt{6} (ans)

Here is your answer
