GIVEN :-

  • x² - 3x - 10

TO FIND :-

  • The value of x by factorization.

SOLUTION :-

➬ x² - 3x - 10 = 0

By splitting the middle term ,

➬ x² - 5x + 2x - 10 = 0

➬ x(x - 5) + 2(x - 5) = 0

➬ (x + 2) , (x - 5) = 0

➬ x + 2 = 0 , x - 5 = 0

➬ x = -2 , x = 5.

Hence the value of x = -2 and 5.

VERIFICATION :-

For x = -2

➬ x² - 5x + 2x - 10 = 0

➬ (-2)² - 5 × (-2) + 2 × (-2) - 10 = 0

➬ 4 + 10 - 4 - 10 = 0

➬ 4 - 4 + 10 - 10 = 0

➬ 0 + 0 = 0

➬ 0 = 0

L.H.S = R.H.S

For x = 5

➬ x² - 5x + 2x - 10 = 0

➬ (5)² - 5 × 5 + 2 × 5 - 10 = 0

➬ 25 - 25 + 10 - 10 = 0

➬ 0 + 0 = 0

➬ 0 = 0

L.H.S = R.H.S
