Answer:

( x+2) (x-7)

Step-by-step explanation:

x^2 + 5x-14

x^2 + 5x - 14 = x^2 + 2x - 7x - 14

Working:

Here what i did is you break down the middle term to get.

here's trick, multiply  (1)x  with 14 you get = 14x

Now find the number that give you 14 by multiplying and 5x by adding or subtracting, therefore:

5x             -14x

+2x-7x        +2x . -7x

( note: . is also used to represent the sign of multiplication)

Now pair the two together:

(x^2 +2x) - (7x+ 14)

( notice how the 14 and 7x became positive that is because we take the minus or negative sign as common therefore they become positive)

Now take the common:

common in x^2 and 2x is x, and common in 7x and 14 is 7:

x ( x +2) -7 (x +2)

( x-7) ( x+2) or (x+2) (x-7)

--> doesn't matter which one you write first

Hope it helps! :)

Have a nice day
