Given : x² + 5x = 14

To Find : Quadratic Formula

Solution:

x² + 5x = 14

=> x² + 5x - 14 = 0

Comparing with

ax² + bx + c = 0

a = 1 , b = 5 , c = -14

Formula to find roots

(-b ± √D)/2a

where D = b² - 4ac

D = 5² - 4(1)(-4)  = 81

(-5 ± √81)/(2(1))

= (-5 ± 9)/2

= (- 5 + 9)/2 , (-5 - 9)/2

= 2 , -7

Roots are 2 and -7
