Solution :-

There is a mistake in the question , it should be :-

 x^2 - \sqrt{2} \bold{x} - 12 \bold{= 0}

Now we have got the Quadratic formula :-

 x = \dfrac{ -b \pm\sqrt{ b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}

By putting respective values

 x = \dfrac{ -\sqrt{2} \pm\sqrt{ \sqrt{2}^2 - 4(1)(-12)}}{2(1)}

 = \dfrac{ -\sqrt{2} \pm\sqrt{ 2 + 48 }}{2}

 x = \dfrac{ -\sqrt{2} \pm\sqrt{50}}{2}

 x = \dfrac{ -\sqrt{2} + \sqrt{50}}{2} \: and\: \dfrac{ -\sqrt{2} + \sqrt{50}}{2}
