now by splitting the middle term,

⇒                 x² + 2x - x - 2 = 0

⇒                 x(x + 2) - 1(x + 2) = 0

⇒                  (x - 1)(x + 2) = 0

∴ So there will be two values of x i.e, 1 and -2.
