Answer:

x = -1 , 2 , -2 , 3

Step-by-step explanation:

Assume x² - x = k

Then our equation becomes

k² - 8 k + 12 = 0

on factorising it

k² - 6k - 2k + 12 = 0

k(k -6) -2 (k-6) = 0

(k-2)(k-6) = 0

So , from here k = 2 , 6

where k = x² - x

so, x² - x = 2 ---------------------> (i)

and x² - x = 6 --------------------> (ii)

solving equation (i)

x² - x - 2 = 0

x² - 2x + x - 2 = 0

x(x-2) + 1(x-2) = 0

(x+1) (x-2) = 0 ---------------------> (iii)

solving equation (ii)

x² - x - 6 = 0

x² - 3x + 2x - 6 = 0

x (x-3) + 2 (x-3) = 0

(x+2)(x-3) = 0 ---------------------> (iv)

From equations (iii) and (iv) , we get

x = -1 , x = 2

and x = -2 , x = 3

This is your solution.

Hope it helps .
