Answer:

The roots are 0.26 and 7.74

Step-by-step explanation:

x²-8x+2

Use the quadratic formula = \frac{-b+ \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac} }{2a} or \frac{-b- \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac} }{2a}

a = 1 , b = -8 and c = +2

First we put the values in the positive equation  \frac{-b+ \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac} }{2a}

=\frac{-(-8)+ \sqrt{(-8)^2 - 4X1X2} }{2X1}

=\frac{8+ \sqrt{64 - 8} }{2} =\frac{8+ \sqrt{56} }{2}=  \frac{8+ 2\sqrt{14} }{2} = \frac{8+ 7.48 }{2} = \frac{15.48}{2} = 7.74

Now we substitute values in the negative equation \frac{-b- \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac} }{2a}

= \frac{-(-8)- \sqrt{(-8)^2 + 4X1X2} }{2X1} = \frac{8- \sqrt{56} }{2} =  \frac{8- 2\sqrt{14} }{2} = \frac{8- 7.48 }{2} = \frac{0.52}{2} = 0.26
