You must make a change of variable to be able to see it better, like this:  

$x^{2}y^{2} =z^{2}$

therefore also  

$xy=z$

and with that we have the equation:

$z^{2} + 8z+16=0$

we factor and we have that  

$(z+4) X (z+4) = 0$

therefore z = -4  

and $z^{2}$ = 16
