X-1 is the factor of x^3 -ax +b => when we put the value of x =1 the ans will be 0 now put x=1 then 1-a+b = 0 => a= b+1 now put x= 2 then 8 -2a + b =0 putting the value of a we get 8 -2(b+1)+b =0 => 8 -2b-2+b =0 => b= 6 then a= 7
