 {x}^{3}  - 2x - 4 =  \\ (x - 2)( {x}^{2}  + 2x + 2) \\ so \: (x - 2) = 0  \:  \:  \: or \:  \:  \:  \:  {x}^{2}  + 2x + 2 = 0 \\ but \:  {x}^{2}  + 2x + 2 = 0 \: is \: not \: possible \:  \:  \: so \: (x - 2) = 0 \\ so \: x = 2
So x = 2
