  • Factorise the polynomial.

\star\:\:\:\sf\large\underline\blue{Solution:-}

Given quartic polynomial,

 \sf {x}^{4}  - 2 {x}^{3}  - 7 {x}^{2}  + 8x + 12

 \sf =  {x}^{4}  +  {x}^{3}  - 3 {x}^{3}  -  3 {x}^{2}  - 4 {x}^{2}  - 4x + 12x + 12

 \sf =  {x}^{3} (x + 1) - 3 {x}^{2} (x + 1) - 4x(x + 1) + 12(x + 1)

 \sf   = (x + 1)( {x}^{3}  - 3 {x}^{2}   -  4x  + 12)

 \sf   = (x + 1)( {x}^{2}(x  - 3) -  4(x - 3))

 \sf   = (x + 1)((x  - 3)( {x}^{2}  - 4)

 \sf   = (x + 1)(x  - 3)(x + 2)(x - 2)

  •  \sf (x + 1)(x  - 3)(x + 2)(x - 2)
