The fraction of heat, converted to work is zero

Explanation:

Given: A gas is heated at constant volume

To find out: The fraction of heat that is converted to work

Solution:

Since the gas is heated at constant volume

The process is isochoric process

The initial volume (V_i) will be equal to the final volume (V_f)

Thus,

V_i=V_f

Change in volume \Delta V=0

Therefore, the work done

W=PdV=P\times 0=0

In fact the whole heat will be absorbed to increase the internal energy of the system.
