Xylem moves water and minerals obtain from the soil to the leaves. It is unidirectional. In the xylem tissue, vessels and tracheids of root, stem and leaves are interconnected to form a continuous system of water conducting channels.
Phloem transports food products which occurs in photosynthesis. It takes place in the seive tubes and is bidirectional.
Both are similar as they help in transportation.
