Xylem transports sap upwards only whereas phloem transports food in both directions. Why do you think there is a difference?
Answers
We know that xylem and phloem are the 2 tissues or vessels present in a plant which helps in transportation of materials through out the plant.
Xylem transports water or sap from the root nodules through osmosis to the leaves while phloem transports food prepared by the leaves to all parts of the body.
Thus Xylem have to transport water only to leaves which is at the top causing only an upward movement of transportation while phloem have to transport the food to all parts of the plant including the downer-organs as well as the upper-organs.
Therefore there is a difference in the movement.
